Early last Sunday morning, an Athens-Clarke County police officer spotted a truck driving recklessly at the intersection of Broad and Lumpkin streets. The officer used his lights to signal the truck to pull over but the truck sped up and began to weave between cars. The officer was separated from the vehicle but found it again near Holman Avenue and Sunset Terrace with the driver gone and the passenger left behind. The driver was later found hiding under an SUV on Holman Avenue. Police report the driver was found to be intoxicated and also had a small amount of cocaine with him. The driver was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, DUI of alcohol, obstructing or hindering an officer, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude, open container, failure to obey a traffic control device and driving too fast for conditions.
